- Keep lit candles, diyas, matches, and lighters out of the reach of children
- Never smoke when sleepy, after taking sedatives or sleeping pills, or after drinking alcohol
- Keep hot foods and drinks, irons, hot utensils away from the edge of counters and tables
- Check electrical plugs and cords regularly
- When not in use keep appliances unplugged
- When working with a hot liquid, keep your child safely away from the source
- If you have a toddler or small child at home, avoid using a tablecloth. The child may pull the tablecloth, hot objects might fall on them
- Teach your family members to identify exits in public places in case of a fire. Also, practice your exit strategy at home and teach them how to put out a fire
- Keep your child at a safe distance from the source when cooking with hot oil or frying
- When cooking, keep pot handles turned inward on the stove top and away from the edge of the stove
- If you use a microwave to heat your child’s food, test the temperature before giving it to your child
- Do not hold your child if you are carrying hot utensils
- Check the water temperature with your hand before placing a child or infant in a bathtub
- If you park your car on a hot day cover car seats and seat belts with a cloth or towel
